![]() ![]() Course easy for me to say since he’s the one doing all the work. It’s a different way of playing for sure, but it’s enabling James to do more. The draw of these games has always been the characters, so it’s nice to work in a system that really lets you SEE the characters. and have been doing amazing work embracing the third dimension. Take control of three citizens of this world as they struggle to understand a deadly conspiracy. Genetic engineering is the norm, and an omnipresent AI powers the city. ![]() So we've been working on a Technobabylon sequel for awhile now ("Technobabylon: Birthright"), but we haven't said or shown much about it yet. A cyberpunk adventure game from the studio that brought you Gemini Rue and Blackwell The year is 2087. There are several leading characters, such as Charlie Regis, an agent of Central’s police force, who’s facing blackmail Latha Sesame, an agoraphobic Trance addict who’s being threatened with assassination and Max Lao, a new Central officer who must hunt down her friend and former partner in crime. It’s set in the year 2087, where human interaction is all but dead, and an AI called Central polices the entire population. If you haven’t played the original Technobabylon, then you can pick it up on Steam for $14.99. It should be interesting to see how the game’s story-telling and atmosphere translates over in the process. He later noted that the shift to 3D lets players “see” the characters, especially since they’re the main draw of the adventure, in his view. ![]() Technocrat’s Dave Gilbert said that the sequel has been in development for “a while now”. Published by Wadjet Eye Games of Unavowed fame, the sequel is perhaps most notably doing away with the 2D look and going fully 3D. Several years later, a sequel is finally coming with Technobabylon: Birthright. This is really the main reason why I wouldn't recommend the game to others.Technobabylon from Technocrat Games was a fine old-school adventure title that delved into cyberpunk mysteries. I'm not a fan of that kind of ambiance in and of itself, but juxtaposed with the (wonderful) silliness of the puzzles it felt really crude and disturbing. There's pointless gore, shocking deaths, even gross sound effects. The game requires you to kill or maim many NPCs. Probably the largest negative: the humor in old school moon logic puzzles is, to me, fundamentally incompatible with the gratuitous gruesomeness of the game. The chapters didn't feel balanced in length or difficulty. Some of the chapters are flashbacks where there is no meaningful gameplay, just clicking on characters to reveal some backstory. I had trouble keeping some of the minor characters' motivations and origins straight in my head. It's self-consciously bleak and the characters are boring cliches. Technobabylon is a dystopian cyberpunk adventure set in the year 2087, where the populace is addicted to the Trance, and order is maintained by a central AI. Despite my distaste for the rest of the game I finished it because the puzzles were that satisfying. Other than at the very end when the game gets buggy and the objectives unclear, they are solid retro puzzles like the best of the Lucasarts era. The positive: the puzzles are really good. Technobabylon A young woman stricken with a deadly plague searches. These are general hints that won't be included below. If you have a partner available, talk to them. In the end I decided that if a friend were asking me for input on whether to play the game I would rattle off so many negatives and only one positive, so in the "no" camp it goes. Whenever you're stuck, the most obvious way to go is to examine everything and, most importantly, talk to everyone. That is simply done by going into 1) Right click Technobabylon, 2) Properties 3) Betas 4) typing in that text input box 'technobabylonold' WITHOUT QUOTES, hitting check code 5) Hitting the blue button that will appear 6) The game will begin downloading files and once thats done, your saves will still be there and ready to be loaded. I struggled to decide between a thumbs up or down for this game. ![]()
